I pulled out the long splinter that embedded itself in my finger. It looked like I got the whole thing out, but I wasn't sure.
I had been stacking our firewood for the season and not using gloves. This piece of wood had gone into my index finger just over 1/2 centimetre.
Anything to do with fingers can be painful. It's a nerve rich area and the first remedy I thought of was Hypericum. Hypericum is the "Arnica of the Nerves". To ease the pain and support the immume system so the finger would not get infected, I gave myself a dose.
Now, Silica is one of the first remedies to think of if you get a splinter. Silica is well known to help 'push out foreign objects'. Silica will support this process in the body, which ever way the body decides to handle it.
I did not give myself Silica in this instance as I thought I'd got the whole thing out. I wanted to see if Hypericum would take care of the puncture.
One more dose a couple of hours later when I became aware of sensation in the wound and I went to bed.
I woke up in the middle of the night to my finger pulsating. Upon checking it, there was an inflamed, slightly swollen, red area encircling the hole.
Now I was a little concerned, perhaps I had left a little piece of wood in there. It was time to try Silica, and I gave myself a dose of the 30c.
In the morning I was amazed to see that the redness had gone. There was no swelling. The wound where the splinter had been removed from could hardly be seen. And there was absolutely no pain or sensation in my finger out of the norm.
Silica is a remedy that is useful to support the body when wound healing is slow. I had not used it before to help a splinter wound after the splinter is removed.
